Terrence Donnelly Innovation Award

Only faculty may apply for the Terrence Donnelly Innovation Award.

The Terrence Donnelly Innovation Awards provide funding of up to $250,000 over two years to support proof-of-concept research projects focused on accelerating the implementation and/or commercialization of high potential, cutting-edge research with the promise of significant socio-economic impacts.

Awards will be granted annually based on innovation, addressing a critical unmet need, potential impact, feasibility, strategic partnerships and team capability. Successful projects will have strong socio-economic or commercial potential, enabling the research or technology to make a positive impact on society.

The Terrence Donnelly Innovation Award will support research and/or commercialization activities with a focus on knowledge mobilization, deployment and implementation.

Selection Process and Criteria

Applications will be reviewed by a panel convened by the Donnelly Centre.

Each application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Foundational Innovation
  2. Uniqueness & Potential Impact
  3. Proposed Path to Adoption (for projects requesting $250K)
  4. Current & Future Partnerships
  5. Intellectual Property
  6. Project Team
  7. Project Milestones, Budget and Budget Justification
