Summer Student Awards Available at the Donnelly Centre

Award Duration: 14-16 weeks during the summer term.

Award Value: $6,000 + $2,330 to $3,520 top up from your supervisor depending on the duration of the research placement.

Number of Awards Available: 5 (1 NSERC USRA, 4 UTEA)

Application Deadline: February 25, 2026 5pm EST

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have successfully completed two terms in a full-time undergraduate program before the award period. First-year students are not eligible.
  • Applicants must have at least a cumulative average of B or higher.
  • Students who have completed their undergraduate program are not eligible, unless they have been accepted into an undergraduate professional program (e.g., medical undergraduate degree program) or accepted to a graduate program but have not yet begun their studies.
  • Applicants may submit only one application. Applicants cannot hold another summer research award concurrently
  • Successful applicants must complete their placement at the Donnelly Centre, supervised by a Donnelly Centre faculty member*.

Award Categories for the Donnelly Centre

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA)

  • Student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident registered at a Canadian University. Duration = 14-16 weeks
  • If you are internally awarded a USRA, you and your supervisor must complete and finalize your portions of the application on NSERC’s online system.

UofT Excellence Award (UTEA)

  • must be registered at the University of Toronto; students registered at other universities are not eligible. 
  • must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or a foreign student with a student visa valid for the entire summer during which the award will be held. Duration is 14-16 weeks
